Mission Statement
Founded in 2021, SPED India + USA is committed to raising awareness about and promoting inclusion in school and beyond. We aim to do that by providing information on disorders/disabilities for families and teachers and by providing high quality educational materials for families and teachers. We strive to give our 100% on this mission so all students can have equal opportunities to learn and excel at their time and pace and families and teachers can have the peace of mind that their children are receiving the best!

Key Terms in Special Education
These are some major and basic key terms which are used when we talk about Special Education.
*Note: This is a general list of key terms. Some key terms may or may not be used in the United States or in India.
Accommodation
A change or alteration in the way that an assignment or task is given to a student with disabilities which allows them to complete those assignments or tasks just like other students. However, there is no change to the content in any task or assignment.
Modification
A change in material which is being taught to a student with disabilities. This allows for the student to learn at their level and not at the level at which other students are learning.
IEP
Indiviual Education Plan. An educational plan for a school going child with disabilities to recieve specialized instruction as well as special education related services
FAPE
Free, Appropriate Public Education. This is a basic right afforded to A child with disabilities attending a school within a school district. However, this may not apply to a child with disabilities attending a private school.
IDEA
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. This act makes sure that children with disabilities are provided with Free, Appropriate Public Education in line with their individual learning needs.
LRE
Least Restrictive Environment. This means that students with disabilities must receive their education alongside nondisabled peers in a regular setting to the maximum extent appropriate. Students with disabilities may not be removed from the regular setting unless they are not being able to make progress even after being provided with supplemental aids and services.
Special Education
An educational practice in which students with disabilities and other special needs are educated through the use of appropriate accommodations and modifications in line with their Individual Education Plan (IEP). Those accommodations and modifications are targeted to those students’ individual ways of learning.
Persons with Disability Act
Guaranteees that people with special needs receive equal opportunities (education, employment, rehabilitation, etc.)
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan
states that the education of children ages 6-14 years old is a fundamental right.
Right to Education
states that children the ages of 6-14 years old have the right to a free and compulsory education. In the case of disabled children, provides them with reserved seats.
